Social change can only happen through a long-haul strategy, and strategy requires resources. This section includes concrete tools that help build and sustain racial justice movements, including: cultivating an individual donor program, empowering a nonprofit board with fundraising tools, and planning special events aligned with social justice values that also raise money and influence.
In the midst of the global pandemic and the national reckoning on race, philanthropy has also been called to acknowledge and shift its power. Writer Vu Le notes, on the future of fundraising, “our current development model is a form of white-moderation designed to help white people feel good about themselves and thus maintain the status quo. It includes a necessary evolution of our thinking and practices.”
